ANNAPOLIS, MD (September 15, 2026) ~ Annapolis, MD - The Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA) has announced plans to conduct aerial spraying in a targeted area of Dorchester County in an effort to reduce the adult mosquito population. The treatment is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, with a backup date of Wednesday, September 16, 2026 in case of inclement weather.
The MDA will be treating approximately 15,598 acres in the following areas: Andrews, Bishops Head, Black Water, Crapo, Crocheron, Golden Hill, Lakesville, Robbins, Susquehanna, Toddville, Wesley and Wingate. The treatment will be carried out using a twin engine white plane with red and blue stripes registered as N903MD. The plane will fly at a height of 300-500 feet above the ground and apply Trumpet - a formula containing naled - at less than 1.0 fluid ounce per acre.

Naled is a commonly-used insecticide for mosquito control in the United States and poses no harm to humans or animals. As a precautionary measure, the MDA advises residents not to leave their homes during the spraying.
This announcement fulfills the Federal Aviation Administration's requirement of notifying the public before aerial spraying takes place over communities. Residents with any questions or concerns can contact MDA's Salisbury office at (410) 543-6626 or visit their Mosquito Control Program website for more information.
