Maryland: PUBLIC NOTICE: Unscheduled Mosquito Control Activity in Anne Arundel County

Trending...
ANNAPOLIS, MD (September 29, 2025) ~ Annapolis, MD - The Maryland Department of Agriculture, in partnership with the Anne Arundel County Health Department, has announced plans to expand mosquito control services in certain areas due to concerns over potential mosquito-borne diseases. The Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) truck-based spraying is scheduled for the evening of Tuesday, September 30, 2025.

The targeted areas for spraying include Arnold, MD near the intersection of Jones Station Road and College Parkway, as well as Crofton, MD near the intersection of Riedel Road and Tilghman Drive. Spraying will take place after 7:30 p.m., with a backup plan in case of inclement weather. Any existing spray exemptions in these areas will be temporarily suspended.

The MDA Mosquito Control Program will be using a permethrin-based solution that has been approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for use in public health mosquito control programs. While this solution is deemed safe for human health, the MDA recommends avoiding outdoor activities during spraying as a precautionary measure.

Although not all mosquitoes carry diseases, the MDA advises residents to take precautions to minimize their exposure to mosquito bites. This includes wearing long, loose-fitting and light-colored clothing, using insect repellents according to product labels, avoiding mosquito-infested areas during peak activity times (dusk and dawn), and regularly cleaning bird baths and pet food/water bowls.

In addition to these measures, residents are also encouraged to install and inspect window and door screens in their homes and stables, as well as remove or empty any water-holding containers on their property.

To stay updated on any unscheduled spray events or other important information about mosquito control in Maryland, residents can follow MDA's Facebook page @MdAgDept. Routine spray program schedules are also available by county on the program's website.
