ANNAPOLIS, MD (September 28, 2025) ~ Annapolis, MD - The Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA) has announced plans to expand mosquito control services in certain areas due to concerns over potential mosquito-borne diseases. The decision comes after a public health concern was raised regarding the increasing number of mosquitoes in the area.
According to MDA, Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) truck-based spraying will be conducted on the evening of Monday, September 29, 2025 in Union Bridge, MD. The spraying will begin after 7:30 p.m. and in case of inclement weather, it will be rescheduled for the next available evening. Any existing spray exemptions in the area will also be temporarily suspended.
The MDA Mosquito Control Program personnel will use a permethrin-based solution that has been approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for use in public health mosquito control programs without posing unreasonable risks to human health. However, as a precautionary measure, MDA recommends avoiding outdoor activities during spraying.

While not all mosquitoes carry diseases, MDA advises residents to take necessary precautions to minimize their exposure to mosquito bites. These measures include wearing long, loose-fitting and light-colored clothing, using insect repellents according to product labels, avoiding mosquito-infested areas during prime periods of activity (between dusk and dawn), installing and regularly inspecting window and door screens at homes and stables, cleaning bird baths and pet food/water bowls regularly, and removing or emptying all water-holding containers.
To stay updated on any unscheduled spray events or other timely information about mosquito control in Maryland, residents are encouraged to follow MDA's Facebook page @MdAgDept. Routine spray program schedules are also available by county on the program's website.
For more information about the planned spraying or general inquiries about mosquito control in Maryland, individuals can contact MDA's Mosquito Control Program at 410-841-5870.
