Maryland: PUBLIC NOTICE: Unscheduled Mosquito Control Activity in Prince

Trending...
ANNAPOLIS, MD (July 21, 2025) ~ Annapolis, MD - The Maryland Department of Agriculture, in partnership with the Prince George's County Health Department, has announced plans to expand mosquito control services in certain areas due to concerns over potential mosquito-borne diseases. The Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) truck-based spraying is scheduled for the evening of July 21, 2025 in Seat Pleasant, Capital Heights, Fairmont Heights, and Bowie North along Racetrack Road.

The spraying will take place after 7:30 p.m. and will be rescheduled for the next available evening in case of inclement weather. Any existing spray exemptions in the designated areas will be temporarily suspended during this time.

MDA's Mosquito Control Program personnel will use a permethrin-based solution that has been approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for public health mosquito control programs. While this solution does not pose unreasonable risks to human health, MDA advises residents to avoid outdoor activities during spraying as a precautionary measure.

Although not all mosquitoes carry diseases, MDA recommends that residents take necessary precautions to minimize their exposure to mosquito bites. These measures include wearing long, loose-fitting and light-colored clothing, using insect repellents according to product labels, avoiding mosquito-infested areas during peak activity times (dusk and dawn), installing and maintaining window and door screens, regularly cleaning bird baths and pet bowls for water and food, and removing or emptying any water-holding containers.

To stay updated on any unscheduled spray events or other important information about mosquito control in Maryland, residents are encouraged to follow MDA's Facebook page @MdAgDept. Routine spray program schedules can also be found on the program's website by county.
