ANNAPOLIS, MD (September 16, 2024) ~ Annapolis, MD - The Maryland Department of Agriculture, in partnership with the Anne Arundel County Health Department, has announced plans to expand mosquito control services in response to a public health concern over the potential spread of mosquito-borne diseases. On the evening of September 17, 2024, Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) truck-based spraying will take place in Crofton near the intersection of Crain Highway and Conroy Road.
The spraying is scheduled to occur after 7:30 p.m. and will be rescheduled for the next available evening in case of inclement weather. Any existing spray exemptions in the area will be temporarily suspended during this time.
MDA Mosquito Control Program personnel will use a permethrin-based solution that has been approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for use in public health mosquito control programs without posing unreasonable risks to human health. However, as a precautionary measure, MDA recommends that residents avoid outdoor activities during spraying.

While not all mosquitoes carry diseases, MDA advises residents to take precautions to minimize their exposure to mosquito bites. These measures include wearing long, loose-fitting, light-colored clothing; using insect repellents according to product labels; avoiding mosquito-infested areas during prime periods of activity (between dusk and dawn); installing, inspecting, and repairing window and door screens; regularly cleaning bird baths and pet food/water bowls; and removing or emptying all water-holding containers.
To stay updated on any unscheduled spray events or other timely information about mosquito control in Maryland, residents are encouraged to follow MDA's Facebook page @MdAgDept. Routine spray program schedules are also available by county on the program's website.
For more information about the upcoming spraying or general inquiries about MDA's Mosquito Control Program, please call 410-841-5870.
