ANNAPOLIS, MD (July 24, 2026) ~ Annapolis, MD - The Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA) has announced plans to expand mosquito control services in certain areas due to concerns over potential mosquito-borne diseases. In cooperation with the Anne Arundel County Health Department, the MDA will be conducting Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) truck-based spraying in two locations.
On Tuesday, July 28, 2026, spraying will take place near the intersection of Riedel Road and Tilghman Drive in Crofton after 8:00 p.m. ET. In case of inclement weather, the spraying will be rescheduled for Wednesday, July 29, 2026. Any existing spray exemptions in the area will be temporarily suspended.
The following evening, Wednesday, July 29, 2026, spraying will occur near the intersection of Telegraph Road, Reece Road and Donaldson Avenue in Severn after 8:00 p.m. ET. If there is inclement weather on this date as well, the spraying will be rescheduled for Thursday, July 30, 2026. Similar to the first location, any existing spray exemptions in this area will also be temporarily suspended.

To ensure public safety during these sprayings, MDA Mosquito Control Program personnel will use a permethrin-based solution that has been approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for use in public health mosquito control programs without posing unreasonable risks to human health. However, as a precautionary measure, MDA recommends that residents avoid outdoor activities during spraying.
While not all mosquitoes carry diseases, MDA advises residents to take precautions to minimize their exposure to mosquito bites. These measures include wearing long and loose-fitting light-colored clothing and using insect repellents according to product labels. It is also recommended to avoid mosquito-infested areas during prime periods of activity (between dusk and dawn), regularly clean bird baths and pet food/water bowls, and remove or empty all water-holding containers.
Residents can find routine spray program schedules by county on the program's website. For any questions or concerns, please contact MDA's Mosquito Control Program at (410) 841-5870.
