ANNAPOLIS, MD (July 23, 2026) ~ Annapolis, MD - The Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA) has announced plans to expand mosquito control services in certain areas due to concerns over potential mosquito-borne diseases. In cooperation with the Anne Arundel County Health Department, the MDA will be conducting Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) truck-based spraying on Monday, July 27, 2026 near the intersection of Chesapeake Harbour Drive and Edgewood Road in Annapolis.
The spraying is scheduled to take place after 9:00 p.m. ET and will be rescheduled for Tuesday, July 28, 2026 in the event of inclement weather. Any existing spray exemptions in the area will be temporarily suspended during this time.
According to the MDA Mosquito Control Program, a permethrin-based solution approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will be used for the spraying. This solution has been deemed safe for use in public health mosquito control programs and poses no unreasonable risks to human health. However, as a precautionary measure, the MDA recommends that residents avoid outdoor activities during the spraying.

While not all mosquitoes carry diseases, it is important for residents to take precautions to minimize their exposure to mosquito bites. The MDA suggests wearing long, loose-fitting and light-colored clothing, using insect repellents according to product labels, avoiding mosquito-infested areas during peak activity times (dusk and dawn), installing and maintaining window and door screens, regularly cleaning bird baths and pet food/water bowls, and removing or emptying any water-holding containers.
Residents can find routine spray program schedules by county on the program's website or contact MDA's Mosquito Control Program at (410) 841-5870 with any questions or concerns.
