ANNAPOLIS, MD (March 20, 2025) ~ Maryland Public Television's popular series, Maryland Farm & Harvest, is back for its 12th season and will be showcasing farms and locations in Western Maryland, the Eastern Shore, and the National Capital Region. The episode is set to premiere on Tuesday, March 25 and a preview can be found on the series' webpage at mpt.org/farm.
Viewers can tune in to MPT-HD or watch online at mpt.org/livestream every Tuesday at 7 p.m. to catch the latest episode. The show is also available live and on demand through the free PBS app and MPT's online video player.
As the state's number one commercial industry, agriculture plays a vital role in Maryland's economy. Maryland Farm & Harvest takes viewers on a journey across the Free State, sharing engaging and enlightening stories about the farms, people, and technology that sustain and grow this industry.
The upcoming episode on March 25 will feature three unique stories that highlight different aspects of agriculture in Maryland.
One story will focus on the Willard family from Montgomery County who have been farming their Poolesville land for over 150 years and six generations. Despite facing challenges such as long hours, unpredictable weather, and other stresses, the Willards have persevered and are now recognized as Maryland Agriculture Hall of Famers. Their commitment to excellence in the industry has earned them this prestigious honor.

Another story will shed light on an issue that many farmers face - deer management. With an estimated 220,000 deer in Maryland, they can cause significant damage to crops. At Rich Levels Grain Inc., owner Rob Level has implemented various strategies to limit this impact but hunting remains the most effective method. Through Deer Management Permits, local farmers are allowed to hunt deer out of season to protect their crops. The nonprofit organization Farmers & Hunters Feeding the Hungry also plays a crucial role by processing donated harvests and distributing processed game meat to local shelters.
The episode will also feature a segment on Sangfroid Distilling, located in Allegany and Prince George's counties. Co-owner Jeff Harner's apple orchard along Martin Mountain Ridge is a sight to behold and produces high-quality spirits. Host Al Spoler will get a taste of these spirits and learn more about the distillery's unique location in downtown Hyattsville.
Since its debut in 2013, Maryland Farm & Harvest has attracted over 19 million viewers on the statewide public TV network. The series has visited more than 500 farms, fisheries, and other agriculture-related locations, covering every county in Maryland, as well as Baltimore City and Washington D.C.
