FREDERICK, Md. - Marylandian -- Frederick Music Foundation presents Joan & Joni, a captivating tribute to the music of folk legends Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell at New Spire Arts in Frederick Maryland on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 7:30 PM. Performed by the talented singer-songwriters Allison Shapira and Kipyn Martin, this show promises an unforgettable evening filled with the iconic songs that helped define the folk revival movement of the 1960s.
Tickets are $30 and may be purchased online at WeinbergCenter.org, by calling the box office at 301-600-2828, or in person at 20 West Patrick Street.
In Joan & Joni, Shapira and Martin perform beloved hits and hidden gems from Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell, while also reflecting on how these folk icons influenced their own musical paths. Allison Shapira, a classically trained singer who found her voice in folk music, released her debut CD "Coming Home" at the famed Club Passim, where Baez began her career. Kipyn Martin, an award-winning Americana artist inspired by her West Virginia roots, has released two solo albums and won accolades such as New Artist of the Year from the Washington Area Music Association. Since debuting Joan & Joni to a sold-out audience in 2015, they have performed over 75 shows along the East Coast, including the historic Caffe Lena and the Woodstock Folk Festival. Their Joan & Joni EP includes favorites like "Morning Morgantown," "A Case of You," "Diamonds and Rust," and "The Circle Game."
