Maryland: UPDATED PUBLIC NOTICE: Unscheduled Mosquito Control Activity in Prince George’s County

Trending...
ANNAPOLIS, MD (July 22, 2025) ~ Annapolis, MD - The Maryland Department of Agriculture, in partnership with the Prince George's County Health Department, has announced plans to expand mosquito control services in certain areas due to concerns over potential mosquito-borne diseases. The Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) truck-based spraying will take place on the evenings of July 22 and July 24, 2025.

On Tuesday, July 22, the spraying will occur in Bowie North along Racetrack Road. Then on Thursday, July 24, the spraying will take place in Seat Pleasant and include areas in Capitol Heights and Fairmont Heights. The spraying will begin after 7:30 p.m., but may be rescheduled if there is inclement weather. Any existing spray exemptions in the designated areas will be temporarily suspended.

The MDA Mosquito Control Program will use a permethrin-based solution that has been approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for use in public health mosquito control programs without posing unreasonable risks to human health. However, as a precautionary measure, MDA recommends that residents avoid outdoor activities during the spraying.

While not all mosquitoes carry diseases, MDA advises residents to take precautions to minimize their exposure to mosquito bites. These measures include wearing long, loose-fitting and light-colored clothing, using insect repellents according to product labels, avoiding mosquito-infested areas during peak activity times (dusk to dawn), installing and maintaining window and door screens at home and stables, regularly cleaning bird baths and pet food/water bowls, and removing or emptying any water-holding containers.

To stay updated on any unscheduled spray events or other important information about mosquito control in Maryland, residents are encouraged to follow MDA's Facebook page @MdAgDept. Routine spray program schedules for each county can also be found on the program's website.
