ANNAPOLIS, MD (July 16, 2025) ~ Annapolis, MD - The Maryland Department of Agriculture, in partnership with the Anne Arundel County Health Department, has announced plans to expand mosquito control services in certain areas due to concerns over potential mosquito-borne diseases. The Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) truck-based spraying is scheduled for the evening of July 17, 2025 in Millersville near the intersections of East West Boulevard and Veterans Highway.
According to the press release issued on July 16, 2025, spraying will begin after 7:30 p.m. and will be rescheduled for the next available evening in case of inclement weather. Any existing spray exemptions in the area will be temporarily suspended during this time.
The MDA Mosquito Control Program will be using a permethrin-based solution that has been approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for use in public health mosquito control programs without posing unreasonable risks to human health. However, as a precautionary measure, MDA recommends avoiding outdoor activities during spraying.

While not all mosquitoes carry diseases, MDA advises residents to take necessary precautions to minimize their exposure to mosquito bites. These measures include wearing long, loose-fitting and light-colored clothing, using insect repellents according to product labels, avoiding mosquito-infested areas during peak activity periods (dusk and dawn), installing and regularly inspecting window and door screens at home and stables, cleaning bird baths and pet food/water bowls regularly, and removing or emptying all water-holding containers.
To stay updated on any unscheduled spray events or other timely information about mosquito control in Maryland, residents are encouraged to follow MDA's Facebook page @MdAgDept. Routine spray program schedules are also available by county on the program's website.
For more information about the upcoming spraying or general inquiries about mosquito control in Maryland, individuals can contact MDA's Mosquito Control Program at 410-841-5870.
