Trending...
ANNAPOLIS, MD (July 29, 2025) ~ Annapolis, MD - The Maryland Department of Agriculture, in partnership with the Anne Arundel County Health Department, has announced plans to expand mosquito control services in response to a public health concern over the potential spread of mosquito-borne diseases. The Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) truck-based spraying is scheduled for the evening of July 30, 2025 in Annapolis near the intersections of Chesapeake Harbour Road and Edgewood Road.

According to officials, spraying will begin after 7:30 p.m. and will be rescheduled for the next available evening in case of inclement weather. Any existing spray exemptions in the area will be temporarily suspended during this time.

The MDA Mosquito Control Program will be using a permethrin-based solution that has been approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for use in public health mosquito control programs without posing unreasonable risks to human health. However, as a precautionary measure, MDA recommends that residents avoid outdoor activities during spraying.

While not all mosquitoes carry diseases, MDA advises residents to take necessary precautions to minimize their exposure to mosquito bites. These measures include wearing long, loose-fitting and light-colored clothing, using insect repellents according to product labels, avoiding mosquito-infested areas during peak activity times (dusk and dawn), installing and regularly inspecting window and door screens at home and stables, cleaning bird baths and pet bowls regularly, and removing or emptying any water-holding containers.

To stay updated on any unscheduled spray events or other important information about mosquito control in Maryland, residents are encouraged to follow MDA's Facebook page @MdAgDept. Routine spray program schedules can also be found on the program's website by county.
