BALTIMORE - Marylandian -- When the pandemic hit, the Fashion Umbrella Foundation, Inc. made several decisions related to its programs and fundraisers. The Gala and Impact Awards were among those discussions. When Baltimore City reopened, and life was returning to "somewhat" normal, the Foundation decided to move forward with this annual event. The 4th annual Gala and Impact Awards is Saturday, August 13, 2022, at the Baltimore Center Stage.
Since 2017, the Foundation has organized the gala to help generate donations for its Fashion Umbrella Foundation, Inc. Scholarship Award. This scholarship is an annual stipend for first- or second-year college students. Registration for the scholarship ends June 30.
Along with the gala is the presentation of the "Impact Awards." This award recognizes individuals and organizations who create an impact in someone's life or a community.
"Hosting a gala is always a good way to fundraise, but I also love giving people their flowers while they are alive. That goal is achieved through the Impact Awards. Since 2017 the Fashion Umbrella Foundation, Inc. has recognized 15 individuals. The recipients range from an Editor-In-Chief of a fashion publication to an attorney. I love this part of my job." Stated Sharan Nixon.

Recipients recognized for 2022 are Gwendolyn Johnson, a former director of the Maryland Legal Aid, To God Be The Glory Deliverance Church, Jazzy Photos, New York Institute of Beauty, and the Baltimore Tech Hub. Guests have a chance to receive an award for being the best-dressed couple, woman, or man.
Everyone knows a gala isn't complete unless auction items are in place. This year's auction items are from our event partners Ashley Stewart, Boordy Vineyards, Canton Carwash, Babe Ruth Museum, Emma's Tea Spot, and Glyndon Lord Baltimore Cleaners will be present. At the gala, you can bid on your favorite baskets.
