'Lifting Up Our Health - Together': Groundbreaking Diabetes and Vaccination Initiative Aims to Combat Baltimore's Health Disparities

BALTIMORE, Oct. 7, 2024 ~ Baltimore, MD - The Ark Church, in partnership with the Baltimore City Department of Public Health, Safeway, National Minority Quality Forum's Center for Sustainable Health Care Quality and Equity, NovaScripts Central and Unstoppable Future Corporation, has announced the launch of a new initiative called "Lifting Up Our Health - Together." This program aims to address the high rates of diabetes and critical vaccination gaps in the Baltimore community.

According to Bishop J.L. Carter, pastor at Ark Church and spearhead of the program, diabetes can lead to severe complications such as heart attacks, kidney failure, amputations, blindness, and premature death. With Baltimore experiencing some of the highest rates of diabetes in the nation and low vaccination rates against flu and COVID-19, the community is at high risk. Those with diabetes are especially vulnerable to severe illnesses and death.

In response to this threat, Ark Church has launched "Lifting Up Our Health - Together," a community-driven effort to raise health awareness and improve access to care through education, support services, and direct medical interventions. As part of this program, monthly luncheons will be held through April featuring educational sessions on diabetes management, nutritious meals, and clinical services including vaccinations for flu and COVID-19.

Bishop Carter stated that at Ark Church they have embraced the call to heal and strengthen their community from within. He added that their mission has always been to serve not just the spiritual but also the physical well-being of their congregation and neighbors. By partnering with esteemed organizations like Safeway and Sanofi along with government agencies like Baltimore City Department of Public Health and CDC, they aim to provide vital resources and education to address pressing health challenges in their community.

This initiative is part of a larger commitment by all involved partners to ensure a healthier future for Baltimore's residents. The program has received generous support from Sanofi and CDC.
