ANNAPOLIS, MD (May 26, 2023) ~ Memorial Day weekend is the perfect time to enjoy Maryland's famous blue crabs and crab meat. To ensure that you are getting the freshest local seafood, the Maryland Department of Agriculture encourages consumers to check the label on containers of crab meat or ask their restaurant server if the crabs being served are from Maryland.
Maryland Department of Agriculture Secretary Kevin Atticks said, "Our Chesapeake Bay blue crabs are second to none. To support our watermen, please make sure that you are purchasing Maryland crab." He also suggested pairing with other local produce such as sweet corn, tomatoes, lettuce and asparagus.
