Allison Transmission partners with Maryland Transit Administration to bring eGen Flex®-Equipped Electric Hybrid Buses to Baltimore

INDIANAPOLIS, July 14, 2025 ~ The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration has recently announced their decision to incorporate New Flyer buses equipped with the Allison eGen Flex® hybrid propulsion system into their fleet. These 40-foot electric-hybrid buses are set to be built in 2025 and will operate in the metropolitan Baltimore region.

The eGen Flex system, developed by Allison Transmission, is designed to improve the efficiency of public transportation and aid cities in reducing their carbon footprint. Its cutting-edge geofencing technology allows the buses to operate up to 50% of their route in engine-off mode, resulting in a significant decrease in both emissions and noise pollution. Additionally, the eGen Flex offers a 25% improvement in fuel economy compared to traditional diesel buses, providing tangible benefits for municipalities worldwide.
