DTD's Breaking Poverty Cycles Institute Takes a Multidisciplinary Approach to Train the Next Generation of Solutions-Focused Leaders with Culturally Competent Strategies
BALTIMORE - Marylandian -- With poverty continuing to impact individuals and families across the region, a new institute is opening to equip leaders and aspiring leaders with practical tools and intensive training to address this pervasive issue. DTD's Breaking Poverty Cycles Institute, founded by acclaimed author and poverty expert Dr. Tekemia Dorsey, will provide in-depth, experiential education on implementing holistic poverty solutions.
The first of its kind in the Baltimore/Washington D.C. metro area, DTD's Breaking Poverty Cycles Institute offers a unique approach - arming participants with comprehensive strategies and hands-on applications for breaking down systemic barriers to escaping poverty. The intensive program is designed for educators, public servants, legal professionals, social workers, healthcare providers, faith leaders, and engaged citizens looking to make a tangible difference in their organizations and communities.

"Poverty is a humanity issue that looks different for everyone; however, solutions from a holistic perspective make a difference when viewed through the eyes of leadership," said Dr. Dorsey, who has authored over 100 publications and a 20-book series entitled Breaking the Cycles of Poverty.
The institute's curriculum covers cultural competency, systemic impacts, and evidence-based practices for disrupting generational poverty across diverse populations. Participants will engage in experiential learning scenarios that build empathy and understanding about the interrelated challenges of poverty. They'll also gain tangible skills for developing and implementing sustainable anti-poverty initiatives within their spheres of influence.
"For years, many well-intentioned top-down approaches to poverty have lacked the critical wisdom and leadership of those closest to these challenges," Dr. Dorsey explained. "DTD's Breaking Poverty Cycles Institute is filling that gap by preparing leaders to drive substantive change through authentic, grassroots-level application."

Organizations can also arrange on-site corporate training, seminars, and professional development workshops. Comprehensive single courses are also available for individuals.
Dr. Dorsey is a renowned speaker, author, founder of the Breaking Poverty Cycles Initiatives non-profit, and longtime champion for poverty solutions in Maryland. Her passion for eradicating systemic poverty transcends economic barriers by addressing intersectional challenges like inadequate education, poor health, discrimination, disability services, and more.
DTD's Breaking Poverty Cycles Institute enrollment opens on April 1, 2024. Those interested in using their leadership to break cycles of poverty are encouraged to explore the institute's offerings.
