The annual STEM-focused event took place in a digital environment and implemented a gamification experience that allowed participants to earn points for their respective HBCUs throughout the conference. Two winners were selected, UDC and Alabama A&M
BALTIMORE - Marylandian -- The BEYA STEM 2021 Conference took place in a virtual setting this year from Feb. 11-13. With the new digital twin environment came new interactive experiences for the attendees that participated across the country. This year's activities led to two scholarships awarded to participating Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
Participants of the conference had the option to enter the "HBCU Village," where each of the 15 ABET-accredited HBCU Engineering schools had their individual suites where alumni and attendees could visit and network with one another.

BEYA STEM 2021 attendees were prompted to select 1 of the 15 schools at registration. A trivia game with five questions relating to the respective HBCU was set up in each village. Individual points accumulated in each trivia game also applied to their chosen school's score.
"This year's conference is a little different," said Tyrone Taborn, CEO of Career Communications Group and BEYA Chairman, "and we wanted to ensure that we created an interactive environment in this digital twin. The trivia games allowed participants to have fun but also learn more about these dynamic HBCUs, with the opportunity to win scholarships for their respective schools and teams."
Questions in each village included fun facts and history questions relating to each school. The games led to a final contest to see which schools and villages could gain the most points and visitors throughout the event.

The BEYA STEM Conference gathers students, professionals, and veterans from across the United States to honor leaders that have made their mark in their respective industries and companies. One of the organization's focal missions is strengthening the talent pipeline from HBCUs to today's workforce. The HBCU Villages allow participants from every category to learn more about the people, places, and history that make these institutions special.
