FREDERICK, Md. - Marylandian -- The acoustic quartet Hawktail will perform at the Weinberg Center for the Arts on Sunday, February 9, 2020 at 7:30 PM.

For many years Brittany Haas (fiddle), Paul Kowert (bass) and Jordan Tice (guitar) were known as a trio of America's finest string players. They spent a decade stoking the fires of their passion project and forging their own brand of roots music—one grounded in timeless tradition, crafted by top-shelf musicianship and performed by jubilant comradery. Individually, they lent their sound to bands, but Haas Kowert Tice was a special road they could travel together, where communication was intuitive, then innovative. While recording an album they reached the conclusion that their sound was incomplete. Yearning for more rhythmic energy and robustness in the ensemble sound, they cut the tunes again with special guests on mandolin and percussion, before realizing they wanted to add a fourth member to round out the group. They added a familiar face from the acoustic musician scene, Dominick Leslie, a versatile mandolinist. He offers a rhythmic backbone and another plectrum to balance the dueling bows of bass and fiddle. Leslie's addition thickens the sound and tightens the groove, opening new creative doors for Hawktail.
