BLACKWOOD, N.J. & SEWELL, N.J. - Marylandian -- William OHanlon, Democratic candidate for Mayor of Washington Township, is calling on current Acting Mayor Laurie Burns to commit fully to the role or recuse herself from the upcoming election. OHanlon argues that several high-dollar projects coming before the township require a mayor who can dedicate themselves entirely to the needs of citizens and oversight of taxpayer funds.
"The role of mayor is not one that can be effectively managed in someone's spare time," OHanlon said. "With over $100 million in funding for key township projects on the line, Washington Township needs a mayor singularly focused on spearheading those funds to the best possible use. Acting Mayor Burns should make the role her full-time job or remove herself from consideration in the election."
OHanlon pointed out that Burns continues to work full time at her position as Clerk of The Board for Gloucester County while acting as mayor on a part-time basis. This split focus, he argues, prevents her from giving the role of mayor the time and attention it demands, especially with several high-profile township projects ramping up. If she is unwilling to leave her other job to focus on the mayorship, OHanlon said, she should allow voters to choose between candidates who can make that full-time commitment to the role.

"The decisions made in coming months will shape Washington Township for generations," OHanlon said. "Voters deserve options of candidates who will make them their top priority. I call on Acting Mayor Burns today to commit to this role fully or stand aside for others who will."
OHanlon is running to bring integrity, transparency and full-time leadership to the mayor's office. His campaign is focused on managing Washington Township's growth in a responsible manner, investing in infrastructure and revitalizing the Black Horse Pike.
