MedStar Health employs nearly 10,000 nurses across its system, providing care in hospitals, patients' homes, community centers, urgent care and ambulatory care centers. This recognition from ANCC highlights the effectiveness of MedStar Health's efforts to improve the wellbeing of its nursing team.
"This honor is a testament to the strong wellbeing culture and commitment we have fostered at MedStar Health," said Verzino. "Led by the work of the MedStar Health Center for Wellbeing and adopted by our nurse wellbeing champions across the system."
The MedStar Health Center for Wellbeing was established in 2021 with a focus on promoting professional fulfillment and overall wellbeing among associates. As part of the MedStar Institute for Innovation, the center offers various mental health support services such as one-on-one coaching, professional fulfillment activities, and train-the-trainer sessions to equip the nursing team with a robust support structure.
Over the past year, the Center for Wellbeing has provided over 1,100 hours of coaching and mental health support to direct-care nurses and nurse leaders. They have also implemented an anonymous interactive screening program for over 9,000 nurses to assess their mental health and connect them with support if needed. Additionally, they have provided onboarding for over 100 nurse leaders and peer support training for more than 300 new nurses and patient care technicians.
