MCKINNEY, Texas - Marylandian -- The McKinney Chamber Foundation is proud to announce McKinney Black History Month 2024 - EMPOWER. ENLIGHTEN. EMBRACE., a month-long program of events aimed at honoring and celebrating the contributions of African Americans to the local community and society. This community-led initiative seeks to empower, enlighten, and embrace the rich history and diverse experiences of African Americans in McKinney.
Throughout the month of February, McKinney Black History Month will feature a series of signature events and programs that highlight the achievements, and cultural heritage of the Black community. The theme of empowerment, enlightenment, and embrace encourages individuals of all backgrounds to come together and celebrate the cultural richness that African Americans bring to the community.
"We are thrilled to present McKinney Black History Month 2024 - EMPOWER. ENLIGHTEN. EMBRACE.," said Gere' Feltus, City Councilwoman of McKinney. "This month-long celebration provides an opportunity for our community to learn, engage, and appreciate the significant contributions of African Americans to our local culture and society. We invite everyone to join us in honoring and celebrating this important part of our history."

Highlighted events during McKinney Black History Month include:
1. College Megafest at Collin College on February 17th:
- A day-long event exposing students to HBCUS and preparing them for college.
- Features exhibitions, and interactive sessions.
2. Gospel Brunch on February 18th at Gather Event Center:
- Headlined by Grammy-nominated artist Zacardi Cortez.
- A soulful and uplifting brunch experience celebrating the rich tradition of gospel music.
3. The In Living Color Awards on February 21st:
- Hosted by Torry Abra of CUTX at Gather Event Center.
- Recognizing and honoring individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to promoting diversity and inclusion in the community.
4. CEO Breakfast Series featuring a conversation with Cynt Marshall, Dallas Mavericks CEO on February 22nd:
- An exclusive opportunity to hear from a prominent African American leader in the business world.
- Cynt Marshall will share insights and experiences on leadership, diversity, and success.
To close out the month, McKinney Black History Month will host a 90's style party with the legendary DJ Spinderella on March 1st. This event promises to be a night of nostalgia, great music, and celebration.
