ANNAPOLIS, MD (September 15, 2026) ~ Annapolis, MD - The Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA) has announced plans to expand mosquito control services in certain areas of the state due to concerns over potential mosquito-borne diseases. In cooperation with the Prince George's County Health Department, MDA will be conducting Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) truck-based spraying in the Huntington and Kenilworth neighborhoods of Bowie and the Clinton View community of Temple Hills on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
The spraying is scheduled to take place after 9:00 p.m. ET and will use a permethrin-based solution that has been approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for use in public health mosquito control programs. However, as a precautionary measure, MDA recommends that residents avoid outdoor activities during the spraying.

While not all mosquitoes carry diseases, MDA advises residents to take precautions to minimize their exposure to mosquito bites. These measures include wearing long, loose-fitting, light-colored clothing, using insect repellents according to product labels, avoiding mosquito-infested areas during peak activity times (between dusk and dawn), and regularly cleaning bird baths and pet food/water bowls.
In addition, MDA suggests installing and inspecting window and door screens in homes and stables, as well as removing or emptying any water-holding containers on a regular basis. Residents can also visit the program's website for routine spray program schedules by county.
For any questions or concerns regarding the spraying or mosquito control program, residents can contact MDA's Mosquito Control Program at (410) 841-5870. In case of inclement weather on Wednesday evening, the spraying will be rescheduled for Thursday, September 17th. Any existing spray exemptions in the designated areas will be temporarily suspended during this time.
