~ Westat, a leading research firm, has announced the appointment of Jean Opsomer, PhD, as the new Director of Statistics and Data Science. Dr. Opsomer will assume his new role on June 1, 2024. With his extensive experience and expertise in survey statistics, Dr. Opsomer is expected to play a crucial role in advancing Westat's capabilities in this critical area.
Dr. Opsomer is a well-known and highly respected figure in the field of survey statistics. He has authored or co-authored over 90 peer-reviewed articles and has introduced several influential statistical methodologies to the field, including calibration and variance estimation methods. In recent years, he has also been collaborating with researchers at Westat on innovative statistical modeling applications.
With over three decades of experience applying statistical methods to various health and human services studies, Dr. Opsomer brings a wealth of knowledge to his new position at Westat. He joined the company in 2018 as Vice President and previously served as faculty and chair of the Statistics Department at Colorado State University.

Dr. Opsomer's contributions to the field have been recognized by his peers, as he is a Fellow of both the American Statistical Association and the Institute of Mathematical Statistics. He is also an elected member of the International Statistical Institute and serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland, College Park.

In addition to his impressive credentials, Dr. Opsomer also holds a PhD in Statistics from Iowa State University and a Master's degree from Ghent University in Belgium.
