TAMPA, Fla., Sept. 5, 2025 ~ Tampa General Hospital and the TGH Cancer Institute have recently been awarded accreditation by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT), solidifying their position as leaders in cancer care in the region. This prestigious recognition is a testament to the academic health system's dedication to providing exceptional clinical care, promoting innovation, and prioritizing patient safety in stem cell transplant and cellular therapy.
FACT is a nonprofit organization that sets standards for high-quality medical and laboratory practices in cellular therapies, specifically the transplantation of living cells into the body. The accreditation process ensures that a program meets internationally recognized standards and utilizes best practices in patient care, cell collection, processing, and administration. This recognition is highly regarded by regulatory bodies such as the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, the Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies, The Joint Commission, and international societies.
Dr. Eduardo Sotomayor, vice president and executive director of the TGH Cancer Institute, expressed his gratitude for this recognition stating, "Tampa General is honored to be recognized by FACT. As a leading academic health system, we are constantly striving to provide our patients with innovative treatments. This accreditation serves as validation of our efforts as we continue to develop our Cancer Institute into a world-class resource for cancer patients."
