BALTIMORE, Jan. 9, 2025 ~ The PenFed Foundation, a national 501(c)3 organization founded by PenFed Credit Union, has announced a generous grant of $25,000 to "The Sandbox" at Reveille Grounds. This initiative is dedicated to supporting veterans, military spouses, and their families as they transition to civilian life and employment. Located in Baltimore, Maryland, "The Sandbox" is a unique life and career exploration playground designed specifically for the military-connected community.
Reveille Grounds has a clear mission to promote successful civilian employment, job training, community leadership, and stability for military children. "The Sandbox" offers carefully curated programming, career development opportunities, and family-focused resources that not only honor military service but also prepare participants for meaningful roles in their communities.
Andrea McCarren, President of the PenFed Foundation, expressed her admiration for Reveille Grounds' efforts. "Reveille Grounds has created a space where veterans, military spouses and their families can not only navigate the challenges of civilian life but thrive," she said. "We are honored to support their mission to strengthen the bonds within military families and empower them to achieve success and stability."

Katie Kilby, Founder & Executive Director of Reveille Grounds expressed her gratitude for being included in the PenFed Foundation's philanthropic portfolio. "Given the innovative and highly impactful initiatives supported by the PenFed Foundation," she said. "We are so grateful to have been invited to join their philanthropic portfolio." She also highlighted how this grant will help them continue their work with local stakeholders in Baltimore to improve access and exposure to resources for the military-connected community.
Kilby also emphasized the importance of this grant in supporting their place-based approach to ecosystem building. She explained that Baltimore currently does not have an active city-level veterans initiative, and the support from the PenFed Foundation will allow them to keep moving in the right direction and in the right way.
