ANNAPOLIS, MD (December 3, 2024) ~ Annapolis, MD - Maryland Public Television's original series, Maryland Farm & Harvest, is back for its 12th season and will be showcasing farms and locations in five different counties during its upcoming episode on Tuesday, December 3. The preview of the episode can be found on the series' webpage at mpt.org/farm.
The popular weekly series, which airs on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. on MPT-HD and online at mpt.org/livestream, takes viewers on a journey across the state to explore the farms, people, and technology that sustain and grow agriculture in Maryland - the state's number one commercial industry.
The December 3 episode will feature three stories with introductions filmed at Evermore Farm in Westminster (Carroll County). The first story takes viewers to Dorchester County where they will learn about Giant Miscanthus - a super crop that is gaining popularity among chicken farmers as an alternative bedding option to traditional wood chips. John Luthy of Luthy Farms in Cambridge shares his experience of growing this crop on his 2,500-acre farm and its various uses.

Next up is a visit to Richardson Farm in Worcester County where viewers will meet Roger Richardson - a pioneer in Maryland agriculture. Richardson was one of the 14 men appointed by then-Governor Marvin Mandel in the 1970s to create the Maryland Department of Agriculture. He later served as the Maryland Secretary of Agriculture under Governor Martin O'Malley. At over 90 years old, Richardson is still an active farmer and his legacy continues to impact the industry he has dedicated his life to.
The final story takes viewers on a culinary journey through Kent, Caroline, and Queen Anne's counties with Chef Kurt Peter of Chesapeake Chef Service. After picking fresh vegetables from Clayton Farms in Denton and soft shell crabs from Chester River Seafood in Rock Hall, Chef Peter returns to his kitchen in Stevensville to create a seafood dish that embodies the essence of Chesapeake living. The recipe will be available on mpt.org/farm for viewers to try at home.
Since its debut in 2013, Maryland Farm & Harvest has attracted over 16 million viewers on the statewide public TV network. The series has visited nearly 500 farms, fisheries, and other agriculture-related locations in all Maryland counties, as well as Baltimore City and Washington D.C.
